Mr. Chris Wood
Webmaster
Texas Chess Association
Dear Mr. Wood,
It is my great pleasure to report Nicole Niemi (from Garland) is crowned 2019 Texas Women's Chess Champion on tie-breaks over Woman International Master Alexey Root, Ph.D. (from Denton), the 1998 Texas Women's Chess Champion. Request you update the award-winning TCA website as soon as practical.
Both players performed as exemplary champions throughout this Championship, in the North Richland Hills Library, during the period of August 17-18, 2019. Both finished with 3.5/4 points after their hard-fought draw on Board One in the final round. The Modified-Median tiebreak system tipped the scales towards Ms. Niemi.
For the first time in history, a Championship Game for any Texas Women's Chess Championship was live-streamed for the world to enjoy. Special thanks and accolades to Chief TD Louis Reed for his technical expertise with DGT technologies.
