2018 and 2019 Fort Worth Veterans Open Chess Champion Carmen Chairez (center in photo).
Congratulating him on the left is Donna Gerron, Veterans Chess Program Director. On the right is Chief Tournament Director Jim Hollingsworth, a Texas Chess Team and American Legion Post 379 (located in Bedford) member.
Mr. Chairez is one of the strongest chess players in Texas and is ranked in the 94th Percentile for all Texas players. He is Captain of the Texas Military Chess Team. He is also a member of the Texas Chess Team, the Waco Chess Team, the Arlington Chess Club, the Round Rock Chess Club, the Tarrant County Chess Club, and the Waco Chess Club. He is also a US Chess Life Member and a Life Patron Member of the Texas Chess Association. In 2017 he was honored with the National Chess Master Bill Wall Texas Legacy Award for his lifetime of exemplary service.
